In this fast-paced world that we live in, where it seems we all seek to portray perfection, we often forget that perfection is all around us in what Mother Nature has given us. I tend to navigate towards the sweeps of petals and the bursts of colour that are in flowers, the rich verdant symmetry that exists in leaves and the overwhelming calmness that water can bring. However, if something other than nature catches my eye, chances are it will be caught on my camera as well. My photos try to capture the beauty that exists around us in a pure form. My work is SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) as I don’t use Photoshop to manipulate my photographs post-production. I may lighten up or darken a photo and play with the clarity. I play with different angles of the subject and different times of day to get great light so that I can capture the photograph in an almost perfect form, in-camera. When deciding whether a photograph is a “keeper” or gets deleted, I trust my initial reaction. It needs me to take a second look, I need to react to it. If I don't like it initially, or it does not invoke a reaction on the second go-round, it gets deleted. My "day-job" is very stressful and demanding. I work in the Relocation Industry and help families move - across the province, across the country, or across the continent. I become friend, realtor, mover, psychologist, and at times the enemy, when things go wrong. This is an industry where you give so much of yourself, but don't always get back. Photography became a way to do something that nurtured my creative side and where I could give something back to myself. Something that did not place any demands on me or my time. It is up to me as to when and what I choose to take pictures of. With this also came the decision not to use any post-production software but rather to try to take photos that don't need to be edited. It is my hope that as you look through my photos, that they invoke the same feelings in you, as they do for me. If they do, leave a comment, they are always appreciated. Teresa |
